PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
I am always eager to share my knowledge about the guitar and music theory, and am happy to offer in-person, as well as online guitar instruction through Zoom.
I have had many students over the years, and am proud to offer a variety of topics that I specialize in; featured here are five of the most popular. More importantly, I will always cater to what the student wants to learn, as well as where they are at in their musical development.
Please reach out to me through email if you would like to inquire about private lessons, and I will get back to you with information regarding pricing and availability.
1
Rhythm
Understanding rhythm, as well as being a rhythmic player is essential to being a great guitarist. Through song analysis, transcription, and specific rhythm exercises with a metronome that I personally use, we can work together on establishing a super solid foundation to make your rhythm and musical timing sharp and accurate for all genres of music.
2
Soloing/Lead Guitar
One of the most anticipated topics students want to get into; guitar solos are often the most expressive and creative parts about playing the instrument. With proper understanding of the mechanics of the instrument, as well as some music theory, we can work together on learning classic solos you've always wanted to know how to play, constructing your own, or being able to improvise a solo over any piece of music.
3
Fretboard Theory
Tired of not knowing where all the notes are on the fretboard? Still having trouble memorizing or applying scales, modes, intervals? Running out of expressive chord voicings to use in your songs? No worries! I have my own method of being able to memorize, connect, and apply all of the important scales, modes, inversions, intervals, and chord voicings you'd ever want to know. We can go over note memorization and intervals, chord/scale theory, and help apply it to the songs you love.
4
Reading Charts/Song Structure Analysis
As a performing musician you can count on being given a sheet of music or a simple chord chart to follow along with what your playing. There are many ways to interpret how to play it or how to compliment what your reading (especially as a guitarist.) Together, we can work on understanding lead sheets and charts, and analyzing song or arrangement structure, in conjunction with choosing the appropriate timbre, register, and feel when playing it.
5
Technique
Lastly, working on technique is also an exceptionally important discipline in being a guitarist. Guitars are temperamental instruments, and often make you work hard to get the sounds that you want out of them! I pride myself in having very good, efficient technique, which I apply to all styles of playing.
Together, we can work on the simplest adjustments such as appropriate hand/wrist placement on the neck/fretboard to avoid strain or injury, all the way to finger dexterity and picking exercises. Some more fun (though, some slightly advanced) techniques that many players like to work on are vibrato control, two-hand finger tapping, harmonics, pinch harmonics, tapping harmonics, vibrato/whammy bar technique, "dive bombs," sweeping arpeggios, and even applying effects pedals, such as a Wah-Wah.
